The AA Grapevine is the international journal of Alcoholics Anonymous. Written, edited, illustrated and read by AA members and others interested in the AA program of recovery from alcoholism, the Grapevine is a lifeline linking one alcoholic to another.

District 5 Grapevine Committee is active in the A.A.general service structure. They serve as a link between the group Grapevine Representative (GV) and the area service structure. The District Grapevine Committee also has the goal of encouraging every group to have a Grapevine Representative (GV).

Service Position Requirements:

  • 3 months of sobriety
  • 1 year commitment term

Committee Functions:

  • To develop awareness of the many benefits that can be derived through the Grapevine and La Viña (Spanish version) subscriptions.
  • Encourage individuals and groups to subscribe to “our meeting in Print”.
  • Encourage our members to contribute articles, photographs, illustrations, and cartoons for publication.
  • Provides a display at the Area quarterlies and assemblies and other A.A. events as requested, to inform Members of the Grapevine and other items available.
  • Keeps Area 58 informed of ongoing Grapevine activities.
  • Have Members become familiar with the AA Grapevine website (www.aagrapevine.org).
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of this webpage.

Committee Duties:

  • Make an announcement at your meetings that you are the Group’s Grapevine Representative and briefly describe what the Grapevine is and what the Grapevine has to offer. (An example would be the Book Language of the Heart.  Many don't know that this best selling book can’t be ordered from AA World Services, and is only available through the Grapevine, or a Grapevine Representative)
  • Offer to help members of your group to order their own subscription to the Grapevine and/or LaVina
  • Represent your Group on the District 5 Grapevine Committee
  • Attend your group's monthly business meetings and give a report that may include how many subscriptions you helped to sell that month.  How many copies of the Book Language of the Heart did you sell? Do you need to request the Literature rep pick up more copies from the Central Office?
  • Starting one month before you rotate out of this position, start announcing that the position will be open and that it is a fun position.
  • When the next member is elected, introduce them to the District Committee Chair. Explain their duties to them by going over this list and help them to learn the ropes!
