NEW GSC Information from Area 58 Assembly

26FEB19

Good Morning D5,

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to and participated in the Area Assembly this past weekend.  It was great seeing you there and being a part of the process along side all of you.

Now it's time to have similar discussions within our District and home groups and forward that feedback onto the delegate.  Please send any and all feedback either to myself (dcm05@aa-oregon.org) or directly to the Alternate Delegate Jim F (delegate-alt@aa-oregon.org) no later than May 1st so that it may be compiled and sent to the Delegate in time for this year's conference.

Attached you will find the complete list of agenda items and the summaries prepared by the Area's trusted servants for this year's General Service Conference. (Summaries are available in Spanish upon request and background material will be available after March 1st) These ‘Summary’ handouts are intended to make the agenda topics and background material simpler to understand for participants. Most of the agenda item summaries should be all you need to have a discussion. If questions arise, I have a full set of background docs for research purposes.

A common thing I heard at the sharing sessions this past weekend was "I was against this until I read the background material."  Please, Please, Please don't be afraid to ask for the full background materials on all or any given agenda item.  Due to its sensitive nature, and size of the files I will make it accessible to you and your group upon request.

AAWS Guidelines agenda items and background materials. Our practice is to send final Conference committee agendas and background information on agenda items to Conference members, upon request, and leave to the discretion of each area delegate the extent to which copies of these materials are further distributed to other interested members in the area. If we receive a request for Conference committee background from a member, we will refer that request to the appropriate delegate for follow up. Since some of the materials may contain full names or other confidential matter, we must rely on the delegates to take this into consideration when distributing this material. We would like to point out that the internet and web sites are a public medium and that it may not be appropriate to make these materials accessible to the public. We would like to emphasize the confidentiality of background material.

As is mentioned in the statement from GSO, we all need to be very careful to protect

the background material. These documents contain full names, addresses, and other

identifying information and are, therefore, highly confidential. Nothing you receive

should find its way outside of our fellowship. Once you have completed

your agenda discussions within your district and homegroup, destroy any printed materials and delete any files you may have copied to your computer. GSO adds another caution: “We would like to point out that the internet and web sites are a public medium and that it may not be

appropriate to make these materials accessible to the public.”

District 5 was assigned the Literature Committee Agenda items however if your homegroup has an interest in agenda items for another committee please have a discussion around those agenda items also and provide the delegate with that feedback as well.

The District will be hosting a General Sharing Session on April 7th (details forthcoming) to discuss and gather feedback for any Agenda items that may be of interest to you or your home group.  In an effort to be prepared and have the necessary information on hand I would appreciate it if you would submit any agenda items to me that are of interest to you and your home group that you would like to discuss at the sharing session so that I can prepare materials ahead of time.

Remember:  All feedback needs to be submitted to the Alternate Delegate no later than May 1st!!

As always if you have any questions feel free to contact me I'm only happy to help.

Greetings OR Area!

Attached to this email you will find the anonymity-protected, digital version of the 2018 Conference Final Report in English and Spanish.

I’ve been informed that the printed version is delayed due to the following reasons:

Our Publishing Department shares that it has taken longer than hoped to prepare this year’s Final Report. Essentially, there are two reasons for the longer-than-desired delay:

1.     The report is considerably longer than its predecessors, in part because of all the material related to the Manuscript issue which is included in full as part of the report of the General Service Board; additionally, by Conference action, the committee considerations of each committee, along with the delegate area highlights, are printed in their entirety, requiring additional time for translation, etc., whereas in prior years these aspects of the report were simply summarized; and

2.     The unusual confluence of events stemming from additional Conference actions that put 3 totally revised pamphlets, two completely new pamphlets, a bevy of other corrections and updates, and an every-other-year edition of the Service Manual (all of these items in 3 languages) on the publishing plate at the same time.

These factors were on top of the already rigorous schedule of regular reprints, newsletters, book updates, and revisions.

The print version has been put into the hands of the printer and should arrive at the end of September.

See you all in Welches!
