District 5 Outreach Committee Guidelines

Purpose And Scope Of Guidelines:
Concept X - Every service responsibility should be matched by an equal service authority — the scope of such authority to be always well defined whether by tradition, by resolution, by specific job description or by appropriate charters and bylaws.

What is included in District 5 Announcements?
D5 Announcements include: Any upcoming District 5 events including the Annual Conference report back, District Orientations and workshops, sharing sessions and planning committee meetings, monthly District 5 business meetings, District 5 service committee meetings and open District 5 service positions.  Make an announcement regarding District5aa.org to let the fellowship know about the events calendar page on the website.  Other appropriate General Service announcements include Oregon Area 58 Events such as Service Assemblies, PRAASA, the Pacific Regional Forum and the Pacific Northwest Conference.

D5 Announcements do not include: Anything hosted by an entity other than District 5 or Oregon Area 58 General Service. Retretes, conferences, roundups, speaker meetings, entertainment events, anniversary celebrations… (Unless hosted by District 5).

How to organize carrying the D5 message?
Committee Meetings and Emails. The Outreach Committee Chair may host Outreach Committee Meetings where the outreach tasks for the month are divided up, current fliers and announcements are provided, and new committee members may be introduced and welcomed.  Email is a good tool to communicate between committee meetings. It is suggested to try to get committee members from all over Central Oregon on the committee.  At least one member from each town.  Possibly take turns hosting the committee meetings, or have them at a central location such as the Bend DownTown Library.

Where to carry the D5 message?
District 5 is made up of all the groups in the Central Oregon Area.  Redmond, Bend, Lapine, Prineville, Madras, Sisters.

The focus is mainly on getting announcements to meetings that are not part of an AA Group, do not have a GSR, large fellowship events, workshops, campouts, potlucks and speaker meetings.

Some good places to post fliers, and to make announcements would be the following:

  • Intergroup Bulletin board in Redmond.
  • Redmond alano club clipboard.
  • Redmond alano club bulletin board.
  • TEC meeting room bulletin board.
  • COIG Monthly Bend Potluck speaker meetings.
  • Madras Monthly Potluck Speaker Meeting.
  • LaPine Potluck Speaker Meeting (2nd Wednesdays).
  • Holiday Alcathons and NYE Events.
  • COIG business meetings at TEC (4th Sundays).
  • Young people's meetings.
  • Large Speaker meetings.
  • Campouts and other Entertainment events.
  • Bring fliers to the CTF Committee meetings so they may take them to members in treatment.
  • All online Groups/Meetings.
  • In Local Face Book A.A. Groups.
